What is Pilates?

The Pilates Method of exercise was created by Joseph H. Pilates, who was born in 1880 near
Dusseldorf, Germany.  A frail child, suffering from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever, Joseph Pilates overcame his physical limitations with exercise and body building.  He called his revolutionary method of Physical and Mental conditioning “Contrology”.

“Physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly
developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily
and satisfactorily  performing our many and varied daily tasks with
          spontaneous zest and pleasure”
.

The Pilates Method reconditions form the inside out.  It is a gentle, sophisticated and safe exercise program.  Each one hour session is designed to tone, strengthen and lengthen the entire body while creating ease and flexibility in the joints.

Testimonial

I have been practicing Pilates for over six years.  Since I began my  practice at MVAC, I've regained a half inch in height, I'd begun  using a cane but was able to put it aside, I've enhanced my core  strength and flexibility and my self esteem has increased because of  better posture.

Mirea customizes workouts to address specific challenges I have.  She gives gentle but firm reminders to enhance my consciousness of how to use my body to accomplish my goals.  -Joyce Hardin, 81 years old
